Delta One Lapidary sells lapidary supplies, equipment, tools and saws for jewelry making

About Us

Jerry Hughes has considered himself a lapidary since the age of ten, when his grandfather helped him shape his first cabochon on the ranch in Montana. He’s never lost his love for, and fascination with, gemstones. He trained as a faceter in the 1980’s, and currently teaches faceting to both youngsters and adults. Starting Delta One Lapidary in 2001 in Waldport, Oregon, has given him the opportunity to share his knowledge with students and adults alike.

Juli Dahl found out early in life that her favorite stone, the garnet, was also her birthstone. After she married Jerry, she joined the Oregon Coast Agate Club, at first going along just to meet new people. She soon found that the lapidary arts held a fascination for her, too. Now she’s learned enough to share her knowledge confidently with the students in the Alsea Youth Lapidary Club. She also chairs the annual Gem and Mineral Show in Newport the Oregon Coast Agate Club hosts.

Oregon Coast Agate Club

The Oregon Coast Agate Club was established in 1963, and is a member in good standing of the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies, Inc. As such, it is a 501(c)3 non-profit entity, whose goal is to increase the knowledge and popular interest in geology, mineralogy, the lapidary arts, and related subjects. We hold meetings twice a month: the second Thursday of the month is a business meeting, beginning at 7:30 pm, at the PUD building in Newport, and the fourth Thursday is a “work” meeting from 7 pm to 9 pm in the lapidary room in the Community School Partnership Building on Hwy 34 in Waldport. Membership dues are only $10 per year as of this writing. Guests are welcome!

The Alsea Youth Lapidary Club is the junior club for students ages 10-18. Begun in 2005, it now has 16 members, who have proven their worth when show time comes around. Dues for the AYLC are only $5 per year, and scholarships are available. Meeting times fluctuate depending on sports schedules, etc. The members have a chance to learn not only faceting and cabbing, but jewelry making and silver smithing as well. Members pay a small fee for materials.

For more information, contact Jerry or Juli at 541.563.7495.
